The Office of Local Code Enforcement provides for the administration and enforcement of the State Uniform Construction Code in many smaller municipalities, including Union Township.

Construction Office Building - Department of Community Affairs

Services provided include receiving and providing guidance on Construction Permit applications, review of construction plans, issuance of Construction Permits, performing required inspections, and issuing Certificates and Orders, where necessary.

Prior to visiting DCA, contact the Union Township Zoning Officer at 908 735-8027 Ext 19, or email zoning@uniontwp-hcnj.org to review your project. You will need to provide a completed Zoning Permit Application for his review; it is available here or you can pick up a copy at the Union Township municipal building. The Zoning Officer’s office hours are Tuesday and Thursday, 12-4pm.

DCA will not process Construction Permit applications until a Union Township Zoning Permit is obtained and approved by the Zoning Officer.

Union Township engages in a wide variety of shared service arrangements. Shared service agreements have been very effective in reducing the costs of providing vital services to our residents. Currently, Union Township has shared service arrangements in place to provide police, fire, EMS, municipal court, construction code & inspection, printing services, and animal control.
