Recycling in Union Township
Trash removal in Union Township is by private contract. Recycling is mandatory (check out the Resident Recycling Guide prepared by the Environmental Commission) and is required by New Jersey state
law and by municipal ordinance. Private trash haulers are now required by law to institute a recycling program as part of their service. Contact your trash hauler for more information.
In addition, Union Township’s Recycling Depot is available for use by township residents every Saturday (except holiday weekends and inclement weather) from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. It is located behind the Municipal Building and the Union Township recycling staff will assist you in removing recycling from your vehicle.
The following items are can be recycled in a single stream (one container) at the Recycling Depot: glass bottles, all colors; aluminum and tin cans; plastic containers #1 - #7; junk mail, bundled in paper bags or tied; newspapers, bundled in paper bags or tied; cardboard boxes, broken down flat. Printer cartridges are also collected and should be handed to the attendant.
No leaves/brush can be picked up by the township; residents are urged to recycle same on their property.
Single stream recycling continues to be available to all residents every Saturday (except holiday weekends and inclement weather) from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm behind the Municipal Building with assistance from Union Township recycling staff.
In an effort to make recycling more convenient and on a trial basis, residents who do not need assistance are welcome to deposit single stream materials in the dedicated containers during daylight hours and non-inclement weather conditions.
Please do not leave any materials outside containers or deposit any NON-RECYCLABLE materials.
